Heavenfield St. Oswalds Church sits on a hill surrounded by tress. It's almost hidden from the Military Road. But this is an area of great historical and spiritual history. The church sits on the site of the Battle of Heavenfield in AD 634.The battle is still considered a watershed moment as it ushered in the golden age of the Kingdom of Northumbria.

Today it is a much more peaceful place, as you walk up to the gates you do feel a sense of peace, and the church is well worth a visit.
